Handmade and premium German cabinetry

Luxury kitchens in Edinburgh

Luxury, in a kitchen, is not a gloss finish and a big island. It is cabinetry built to the millimetre for the room it stands in, materials that still look right in fifteen years, and an installation that does not need explaining away. We have been building kitchens to that standard in Edinburgh since 1983.

What actually separates a luxury kitchen

The differences are mostly invisible on a showroom floor. Solid timber in-frame construction rather than applied frames. Drawer boxes and runners rated for real loads. Scribed fillers and bespoke panels instead of standard cabinets with gaps trimmed out. Worktops templated to the fitted room rather than cut to a drawing.

Then there is the specification: full-height larders with internal drawers, pan drawers that hold cast iron, integrated extraction that actually moves air, boiling and filtered water at the tap, and lighting designed as part of the joinery rather than added afterwards.

Handmade in-frame, or premium German

Our bespoke handmade line is built in our own Edinburgh joinery, in any size and any colour, in-frame or lay-on, hand-painted and fitted with solid brass or bronze ironmongery. It is the right route for period properties, awkward rooms and anyone who wants furniture rather than units.

For a contemporary house, the upper Impuls ranges give handleless matt lacquer, real timber veneers and full-height glazed units built to order in Germany, with engineering tolerances a hand-built kitchen cannot match. Both routes are designed by the same team.

Beyond the kitchen itself

Most of our larger Edinburgh projects run past the kitchen: a boot room off the back door, a butler's pantry hiding the working worktop, a bar or drinks room, a snug or cigar room, utility and laundry rooms, and fitted studies. All built in the same joinery, in matching finishes.

We also handle the surrounding trades - electrics, plumbing, plastering, flooring and decoration - so a whole ground floor can be delivered as one programme with one contact.

Materials we specify most

Worktops in Dekton, Silestone, Corian and Systemo, alongside natural stone and solid timber. Blanco Silgranit and steel sinks, Quooker boiling taps in eight finishes, and AEG appliances - we are a Registered Gold Partner, which brings additional cashback on qualifying AEG packages.

Colour work is done properly: hand-painted finishes in traditional British palettes - partridge grey, deep green, navy, burgundy, charcoal, oak and off-white - matched to the rest of the room rather than picked off a chart.

Common questions

What does a luxury kitchen cost in Edinburgh?
Handmade in-frame projects generally start around the middle of the market and rise with size, materials and the amount of building work involved. Premium Impuls projects can be specified across several price groups. We quote line by line so you can see exactly where the money is going - our Scottish kitchen cost guide sets out realistic bands.
Is handmade better than German cabinetry?
Neither is better outright. Handmade wins on bespoke sizes, period detailing and paint finishes; German cabinetry wins on engineering consistency, internal fittings and lead-time reliability. We design in both and recommend based on the room.
Do you take on whole ground-floor renovations?
Yes. Kitchen, pantry, boot room, utility, bar and fitted furniture can be delivered as one programme, with the electrics, plumbing, plastering, flooring and decoration included.
How long is the lead time on a luxury kitchen?
Design usually takes a few weeks of back and forth. Once ordered, expect several weeks of manufacture before installation, and longer for large handmade projects with special paint finishes or stone.
Can I see examples before committing?
Yes - the showroom has full displays, and our gallery and case studies show completed Scottish projects. Design and quotation are free with no obligation.
